Are video games at the service of science? With Eidos Montreal yes! The studio currently working on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is collaborating with Open Bionics, an award-winning robotics start-up, and Razer, a global leader in connected devices for gamers, to make in-game augmentations a reality.

The aim of this union will be to create financially accessible bionic arms thanks to the expertise of these 3 companies which bring designers and 3D printers to bear. For Eidos Montreal, the inspiration of course comes from the Deus Ex universe and the hero Adam Jensen. The prostheses will be accessible for adults as well as children with models specific to boys and girls. The designs and plans will be available free of charge and without royalties to allow as many people as possible to access them.

Joel Gibbard, CEO at Open Bionics, said following this announcement:

Working around Deus Ex to reinvent the future of bionic prosthetics was an incomparable artistic experience. It was even more incredible to see people using these bionic arms and getting great joy from it. This collaboration shows the exciting future of bionics. We are proud and privileged to have been able to work with the Deus Ex art team. They have been extremely generous with their time and ideas throughout this project. We look forward to seeing future developments in this relationship.

As for Razer, Stargazer technology will combine camera and motion-tracking to use the bionic arm through a virtual interface to try out the arm during events.

The bionic arms will be available during 2017 and presented at several events such as E3 and Gamescom.
