Line B of the Rennes metro has been completely stopped since yesterday, Saturday November 18, 2023 and will remain so this Sunday. A fire is the cause of a major breakdown.

It was the fire in an electrical substation in the Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande la Maltière garage on Saturday evening that caused the shutdown of line B of the Rennes metro.

“It was around 6:45 p.m. when a fire alarm went off at the central metro control post. An electrical substation at the Maltière garage-workshop had in fact caught fire. » explains Armel Guenneugues, marketing director of Keolis Rennes.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but metro line B had to be shut down. “We immediately shut down the line because we could no longer power it electrically. »

Travelers were on board in the early evening. “All customers who were on board were evacuated from the line. We are now assessing the damage to see when we can restart the line. » explains Keolis.

Line B traffic did not resume this Sunday, November 19.

The metro B stop occurred while a large noz party was taking place all evening at the Musikhall, for the closing of theYaouank Festival. The STAR network has therefore set upShuttle Busesfrom République, on the C6 line platform.

Bustravel between Saint-Jacques-Gaîté and Cesson-Viasilva, to compensate. “We have set up relay buses which serve all the stations on line B, explains Armel Guenneugues.

Six relay buses run on the line, but they do not pass as regularly and as often as the metro which passes every 3 to 5 minutes. “In fact the buses pass every 15 minutes, the service is degraded but we ensure the continuity of the transport service, even if it is not at the same level,” recognizes the marketing director of Keolis Rennes.

“The teams from Keolis, Siemens and Rennes Métropole are currently carrying out a precise assessment of the damage. The damage seems relatively significant so it is not certain that we will be able to resume tomorrow. » (editor’s note: Monday November 20).

If the shutdown of line B were to continue, Keolis promises to increase bus service. Will they be enough to transport all users, including all students who will need to travel in the coming hours?
