Chérif Delay, one of the victims of the Outreau affair, was sentenced Friday to five years in prison by the criminal court of Versailles (Yvelines) for death threats and violence against three of his ex-partners.
Chérif Delay, who appeared in pre-trial detention, admitted almost all of the facts, describing himself on several occasions as a “dangerous” person.
However, he denied an episode recounted by one of the victims, who accused him of having strangled her in July 2020 with a shower head in front of her five-year-old son.
Confession then backpedaling
Chérif Delay was first indicted for attempted murder of a spouse, a criminal charge for which he risked being tried.
During an immediate appearance for domestic violence in March 2022, he admitted attempted murder with a knife, a more serious offense than those for which he was being tried. The court sent the case back for investigation. Chérif Delay then returned to his remarks, claiming to have made them out of provocation.
The investigating judge did not accept the intention of homicide, the stab wound having been made to the thigh, and referred the case to the criminal court.
“The court pronounces a severe sentence, without adjustment, without support,” regretted Yves Monerris, Chérif Delay’s lawyer, after the decision, in accordance with the prosecutor’s requisitions.
Chérif Delay is known for his victim status in the Outreau affair (Pas-de-Calais): when he was a child, he was raped and mistreated by his mother and stepfather, Myriam Badaoui and Thierry Delay .
Since then, his journey has been chaotic, between psychiatric hospitalizations and referrals to justice – before Friday’s decision, he had 13 convictions, notably for domestic violence.
