After a long wait, the Nostalrius team got impatient and decided not to email Blizzard anymore.
The Nostalrius team is apparently past the point of playing good guy: with or without Blizzard’s permission, they’re going to release their server program. They are entrusting their own child to another team, and it looks like they are burning all bridges with Blizzard’s World of Warcraft team.
Nostalrius is not waiting any longer, they are releasing the World of Warcraft server code
Nostalrius was a private server operated by a small team. The guys’ goal was to offer an authentic vanilla World of Warcraft experience, and with a lot of improvements, they came relatively close to the original game. Thousands played on Nostalrius until Blizzard shut down the server.
Then the guys’ plan was to release the entire database to other server providers working with emulators anyway. In the end, this did not happen, as Blizzard invited the team to their meeting.
Everything went well at the meeting and the birds were chirping that Blizzard might announce Legacy servers at BlizzCon. This didn’t happen, but we weren’t that surprised, since shortly before the event, the developers said that they won’t be able to say anything about it until after BlizzCon.
This was followed by two months of silent silence. Obviously, Blizzard will not make new announcements a few days after BlizzCon, but the Nostalrius team is running out of patience regardless. According to them, they have not reached the blizzard management since the meeting, and they are not trying anymore. They will release their server data and a new team will continue their work.
The only question is who will stop Blizzard from shutting down Elysium as well. Nothing. If the developers want, they can cut the fuse a week after the launch of the new Elysium server, and then the only thing that will change is that they will definitely not negotiate with the Nostalrius guys after that.

It’s also not certain that Blizzard isn’t working on Legacy servers. They may have a plan, but they certainly won’t announce it that quickly (a few months is not a long time in a development cycle), and all Nostalrius is getting at is that whatever Blizzard plans, they won’t be a part of it.
We still have a lot to tell you, you can find everything interesting here!
