Its new Tegra X1 + processor and deep learning technologies allow to apply advanced image scaling by artificial intelligence, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision

NVIDIA has marked a new milestone in the field of on-demand content players by launching the next generation of SHIELD TV, which is presented as the heart of entertainment in the living room, thanks to its entertainment functions, video games and AI capabilities, starting from € 159.99.

Both SHIELD models — SHIELD TV and SHIELD TV Pro — provide an exceptional audiovisual experience. Its new Tegra X1 + processor, which offers 25 percent more performance than its predecessor, makes it possible to take advantage of Dolby Vision to generate spectacular images and Dolby Atmos to reproduce extraordinary sound. Its computational power dramatically increases image quality by applying artificial intelligence to convert videos broadcast in HD quality into content with 4K resolution.

“These new models represent a huge step forward for SHIELD, which has always delivered groundbreaking innovations for the living room since its launch five years ago,” said Jeff Fisher, senior vice president of PC at NVIDIA. “The new versions provide the best entertainment, enhanced by Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, and our innovations in implementing artificial intelligence to improve the resolution of on-demand content.”

What’s new in SHIELD offers options for everyone from casual content consumers to gaming enthusiasts.

SHIELD TV arrives with a reduced and discreet design, designed to go unnoticed and blend in with the rest of the devices in the room. It also incorporates a Gigabit Ethernet input and dual-band Wi-Fi to ensure a lightning-fast connection.

SHIELD TV Pro takes entertainment to a new level for the most demanding users. It is based on the iconic design of its previous generation and comes with additional memory and storage, plus two USB ports to enjoy Plex Media Server and connect large capacity hard drives and other USB devices.

Both come in a bundle that includes a new remote control, powered by AAA batteries, incorporating buttons with motion-activated backlighting, a locator for the integrated remote and a microphone for voice searches.

SHIELD, as an Android TV device, allows access to more than 500,000 movies and series through more than 5,000 applications and games available on Google Play. The Google Assistant allows users to quickly access content, control smart objects, and get on-screen responses through their voice. SHIELD now supports “routines” —through a single command, the Google Assistant will complete multiple actions.

“NVIDIA is pushing the boundaries of how audiovisual entertainment is consumed at home,” said Shalini Govil-Pai, senior director of Product Management at Android TV, for Google. “By adding Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to Android TV, users of the new SHIELD TV will enjoy an extraordinary experience that represents very well the capabilities and richness of content of our platform.”

Spectacular sound and video

Dolby Vision transforms entertainment experiences with ultra-vivid images – with incredible brightness, contrast, color, and level of detail that enhance movies with refined and realistic images. It can reproduce never-before-seen colors with high contrast, highlights that are 40 times brighter, and blacks that are 10 times darker.

Dolby Atmos represents a step forward for surround sound, transporting listeners to an extraordinary experience with mobile sound flowing all around them. Viewers will be drawn into the action as the sounds of people, places, things and music come to life with breathtaking realism.

AI in the home

SHIELD benefits from NVIDIA’s leadership in artificial intelligence by offering features that are not available on competitive devices. In addition to integrating connectivity with Google Assistant and Amazon Echo, the new players have an AI scaler at their disposal to bring HD content to life. Trained in a deep neural network, the scaler allows SHIELD users to enjoy content broadcast in 720p and 1080p in stunning 4K.

Amazing games

SHIELD brings together the widest variety of gaming content in an on-demand content player offering video games from the cloud, local streaming and advanced games that run natively. Players can enjoy hundreds of compatible games through the GeForce NOW beta, including many current releases and free games as popular as Fortnite.
