Oxenfree, the supernatural arrives next month on PS4.
Night School Studio opens next month with Oxenfree, a supernatural adventure for Playstation 4 that promises a lot. Sean Krankel, the co-founder of the study has given the first details about what we can expect in May.
Hi, I’m Sean from Night School. We’re going crazy over here. We have been working for a long time waiting for this day and we are very excited to announce that soon everyone will be able to enjoy Oxenfree in its coolest, scariest and craziest form on PS4.
A quick update: Oxenfree is our studio’s debut game and it centers around a girl named Alex who takes her new stepbrother, Jonas, to a late-night party on an abandoned military island, but things start to go wrong. terribly wrong.
We are facing a supernatural adventure that will turn your head upside down and that is full of a lot of consequences and paths to follow within the story. You’ll be able to shape Alex’s life, the fabric of space-time, and the fate of a handful of very annoying ghostly creatures. Imagine Freek & Geeks but with possessions, time loops and a dose of terror.
When my cousin Adam and I started the company a couple of years ago, we set out to create a game where players could interact in new ways within a big, dangerous story. With Oxenfree we wanted to turn you into the protagonist of a thriller with just the right dose of terror, fun and depth. Also, unlike many other narrative games, we wanted you to play this game without any cut-scenes, giving you the freedom to explore, talk, and solve the mysteries seamlessly.
We’ve added all manner of enhancements to take the experience beyond anything you’ve seen before, including turning your DUALSHOCK 4 controller into the in-game supernatural radio via the controller’s speaker and light bar. The most amazing addition, however, is the creation of the surreal New Game+ mode, which will continue Alex’s story with a new purpose.
I’m going to try to do this without spoiling anything. When you ________ to the game for the first time and come back again, Alex will have different dialogue options sprinkled with déjà vus. Suddenly, you will realize that Alex is ________, and you must ________ if you want to live to see another day.
Ok, that was a lot harder than I thought! Just know that with this new content, Alex’s story will go beyond the traditional “ending” and will feature different locations, endings, and a twisted new point of view on events on the island.
We are very grateful for all the love the game is receiving and also honored to have received the IGF Award for Excellence in Visual Art a few weeks ago. Also, since we humbly believe that the game looks pretty good, we have created a dynamic theme that will be released on May 31st as well. The theme will show an Edward Island (Isla Edward) that will evolve to reveal the temporary events of the game. So turn on your PS4 at 8:00 p.m. and watch the ship arrive. But turn it on at 1:00 and you’ll probably see something amazing.
Do you think we are crazy for you to play? YES WE ARE. We can not wait any longer! We suggest you have some adult diapers on hand. Or at least take a couch buddy with you before you jump in the water.
