Microsoft is preparing to launch a new console, but it is also highly dedicated to services and games in the cloud, something that positions it before more important competitors than Nintendo and Sony.
Phil Spencer, boss of Microsoft’s Xbox division, confessed that his company’s real competitors are Amazon and Google, who are also preparing for a future focused on services and the cloud.
“When you talk about Nintendo and Sony, we have a lot of respect for them, but we see Amazon and Google as the main competitors in the future, “said Spencer to The Verge.
“We don’t want to disrespect Nintendo and Sony, but traditional video game companies are a little out of place. I believe they can try to recreate Azure, but we’ve invested tens of billions of dollars in the cloud over the years.”
Microsoft is preparing for a future in video games that goes far beyond the Xbox console and will soon have the ability to reach billions of players with xCloud.
The video game streaming service will arrive in late 2020 and will have Google as the main competitor, especially since it is not interested in a console sale war with Nintendo and Sony.
“We don’t want to be in a format war while types like Amazon and Google are focusing on how to bring video games to 7 billion people around the world. That is our aim. “
