Pokémon Go Christmas Event 2018: start date, Snover, Delibird, Pikachu and all other Pokémon you can catch

The Pokémon Go Christmas event returned again and follows the Halloween event where Gen 4 and other creatures related to the festive season were introduced. This time, new ice-type Pokémon and other Pokémon were launched, which you can capture from tomorrow.

This event also marks the return of Delibird, one of the Gen 2 creatures that arrived later, a festive Pikachu, free incubators and other great benefits like Candy bonuses or extra XP that you will get as you take your catch this festive season.

Pokémon Go Christmas event – start and end date

The Christmas event starts on December 18th at the following times:

  • Portugal: 21:00
  • Brasilia: 19:00

The 2018 Christmas event will end on January 2, 2018 at the same times but there are some limited time bonuses within this period (more on that below) that have specific times. Here is a summary:

Pokémon Go Christmas sub-event times:

  • 2x Candy for capturing or transferring Pokémon – from December 18th to 22nd
  • 2x Stardust for capturing Pokémon – from December 22 to 26
  • 2x XP for capturing Pokémon Pokémon – from December 26th to 30th
  • 2x more egg hatching speed – December 30th to January 2nd

As with Halloween, any Gen 4 Pokémon added to the event will be a permanent addition to the game, although the bonuses listed below – and Pikachu with Gen 2’s Christmas hat or Delibird – are limited.

Snover, Delibird shiny and other Pokémon that are arriving at the Pokémon Go Christmas event

Some familiar faces are back in the game – most notably Pikachu with a Santa hat (potentially a new hat, but not yet confirmed) and Delibird, the Christmas themed Pokémon, but this time a shiny version that you can capture.

In addition, there are a number of new Pokémon that have been confirmed for this event – despite being a lower value compared to the dizzying 21 entered last year – and a few more that we think are returning through evolutions or the official image above. Most of them, of course, are from Gen 4.

There are also some Pokémon to be confirmed that may arrive during the event but which, for now, we have excluded from the table. On the one hand, you have the three Legendary Pokémon present in the official image above, which, most likely, will be the next legendary Pokémon of the Raids: Uxie, Azelf and Mespirit.

There are also some Ice type evolutions of existing Pokémon that may also appear: Mamoswine (from a Piloswine) and Froslass (from a Snorunt), which may also be evolutions with a Sinnoh Stone although, for now, this is just speculation . We will update this page when this is confirmed and you can see the Pokémon you can count on now!

Other Pokémon Go Christmas event bonuses

In addition to the handful of Gen 4 Pokémon and the return of Delibird and Christmas Pikachu, the event will also introduce:

  • Increase of Ice spawns – The entire duration of the event. Includes: Sneasel, Swinub, Snorunt, Jynx, Spheal and the new Pokémon Snover.
  • More likely to hatch baby Pokémon in 7km Eggs – The entire duration of the event. Includes: Azurill, Smoochum, Riolu and the new additions Munchlax, Chingling and Mantyke.
  • Free single-use incubators – The entire duration of the event. Obtained by spinning Pokéstop or Gym, once a day, the first time you spin.
  • New Delibird themed cosmetic items – The entire duration of the event. Delibird sweater, gloves and boots available.
  • Limited time event bonuses
    • 2x Candy for capturing or transferring Pokémon – from December 18th to 22nd
    • 2x Stardust for capturing Pokémon – from December 22 to 26
    • 2x XP for capturing Pokémon Pokémon – from December 26th to 30th
    • 2x more egg hatching speed – December 30th to January 2nd

Many very useful bonuses, therefore, especially the Candy transfer bonus, which is quite good if you saved that Legendary Pokémon for a transfer at a time like this. Make the most of these mini-events.

Star Pieces and Lucky Eggs will be useful, along with the bonus Incubators and the superior hatching speed of Eggs. So, with any luck, you’ll be able to have the brand new baby Pokémon in the 7km games!
