Portworx by Pure Storage announces a new version of PX-Backup for Kubernetes
The new version of PX-Backup 2.0 responds to the nature of Kubernetes, to allow you to manage services securely and implement modern applications in the best possible way. New features include:
- Secure Self-Service Role Based Access Control (RBAC). PX-Backup 2.0 provides granular role-based access controls that integrate with enterprise authentication systems. For example LDAP and Active Directory. This helps ensure a secure self-service experience. In fact, you can map users and user groups to specific roles. While administrators can control permissions and user access level within PX-Backup.
- Improved intelligence for data protection with Backup Activity Timeline Dashboard. This self-service dashboard provides a daily and monthly graphical view of backup activity and status. Users can monitor all work in progress at a glance. In addition, you can also filter and consult them on an hourly or daily basis.
- Better user experience with Application Grouping. Improved usability by making your Kubernetes application a primary filter – rather than a pod or object – for setting up and managing backups. You can optimize the display based on applications instead of individual resources. You can also scale the user interface up to hundreds of namespaces and thousands of resources.
- Supported ecosystem expansion. There comes broader support for backup and recovery of solutions in the Kubernetes ecosystem. For example VMware Tanzu and Microsoft Azure. All by leveraging native CSI integration. PX-Backup can now protect applications running on these platforms even if a customer is not using PX-Store.
- Availability in cloud marketplaces. From this version, PX-Backup can be purchased on the AWS Marketplace and IBM Cloud Catalog with unified charges.
A new way to secure Kubernetes applications
Murli Thirumale, VP and GM of Pure Storage’s Cloud Native Business Unit explains, “Securing Kubernetes applications in highly dynamic environments requires a totally different approach characterized by granularity at the container level, one that is Kubernetes-aware and multi-cloud. With PX-Backup 2.0, enterprises can protect mission-critical Kubernetes applications with a secure self-service experience specifically designed for today’s complex environments of this type.”
