The coronavirus has turned the movie premiere calendar upside down. Every now and then there is information about further delays, and the latest set of such reports clearly shows that the situation in cinemas will not return to normal soon.
Yesterday we wrote about the postponement of the Dune premiere to October 1, 2021. By this time, The Batman was due to debut on the same label (Warner Bros.), so everyone expected his premiere to be delayed. These speculations have just been confirmed. We will not see Robert Pattinson in the role of the Dark Knight in theaters until March 4, 2022.
Other productions of this label also had a slip. Shazam 2 will debut on June 3, 2023 instead of November 2022. Black Adam was supposed to hit the screens on December 22, 2021, and there is currently no release date at all. A similar fate befell the Minecraft film adaptation. The Flash was delayed until November 4, 2022.
Interestingly, not all of the highly anticipated Warner Bros. were delayed. The reshuffle in the label’s schedule allowed to accelerate the debut Matrix 4. The fourth part of the series will hit the screens on December 22, 2021, while the premiere was originally planned for April 1, 2022.
Wonder Woman 1984 is still due out on December 25 this year, but it’s hard to judge whether that title will be delayed as well. Warner Bros. took a risk by releasing the movie Tenet last month and paid for it with disappointing financial results. Production has done poorly in the US, where it has earned only $ 45 million so far. Revenue from around the world is already better at $ 307 million. The label’s gameplay may ultimately turn out to be successful, because with all these slippages of competing projects, Christopher Nolan’s latest work can stay on the silver screen for a long time.
The fate of Wonder Woman 1984 may not, however, be left to the Warner Bros. bosses. The rapidly growing number of infections in many countries may lead to further lockdowns. In addition, the delays of many premieres saw the Cineworld group, which owns the second largest cinema chain in the US, announce the closure of its cinemas in the US and UK. It is possible that other companies will follow her example.
