Red Dead Online Summer Update arrives September 10: New Frontier Challenges, Specialized Roles, Wide Variety of New and Much More.
The next Red Dead Online update arrives on September 10 and introduces three new Frontier Pursuits, the next step in the ongoing evolution of Red Dead Online.
Frontier Pursuits are an ongoing series of roles for players to play, with a wide variety of themed activities each offering unique items, skills and more as you progress through each role.
In addition to the first three new Roles come dramatic improvements to player controls with faster and more responsive movement across all phases of combat and locomotion; the ability to redesign your character’s appearance without resetting progress; greater damage resistance in the defensive playstyle; new skill cards; new daily challenges and daily role challenges; more dynamic events happen across borders; a whole host of new items and much more.
With each role, you will always have new pursuits that lead to unique items and skills as you progress, in addition to cash and gold payouts. As Red Dead Online continues to evolve, more Frontier Pursuits will be added, giving you new roles, new choices and more ways to personalize your path through the world of Red Dead Online.
Each role automatically earns role XP as you complete a role’s activities: when you hunt a bounty, you earn role XP for the bounty hunter; when you find a collectible, you earn Role XP for the Collector and so on. Roll XP counts towards your progression through 20 rolls. You will reach a new level of distinction every 5 levels: Beginner, Promising, Established and Distinctive.
Unlocking a roll rank earns roll tokens, and on certain ranks you also unlock new abilities, such as the Bounty Hunter ability to dive for horseback protection or the ability of a trader to train his camp dog to warn of a camp raid by thieves; upgrades to the carrying capacity of your bag; or access to new role-specific Free Roam events. Each tier also has a set of items unique to the reel that can be unlocked for purchase using reel coins.
For example, the Trader’s Novice Kit gives you access to seven Trader Role items, including a unique saddle, pistol belt, and stew that supplies your camp with fresh meals to replenish your cores and the cores of your Posse (and additional recipes to unlock special casseroles for Gold Cores), while the Bounty Hunter’s established kit gives you access to seven Bounty Hunter Role items – including a Bounty Wagon to hold multiple bounty targets, the Bolas that throw weapons to destroy bounties’ legs. confuse, a new outfit and more.
Players advancing to Distinguished ranks have earned a set of new skills that can be useful in all their pursuits across the border; advanced camp styles and comfort; and recognizable apparel items that will showcase their achievements in any discipline.
Start as a Bounty Hunter when you meet the Legendary Bounty Hunter in Rhodes and purchase the Bounty Hunter license. The standard price is 15 gold bars, while Twitch Prime members who link their Twitch and Rockstar Games Social Club accounts on Sunday, September 8 will get the Bounty Hunter license for free starting September 10.
Licensed Bounty Hunters can pick up work by visiting bounty boards near law offices, post offices, and train stations across the state. There’s no shortage of criminals to take on and the targets range in difficulty from lone criminals to notorious outlaws with armed security details and a watchful eye. Taking on an armed gang or bringing multiple targets to justice is made easier with the help of a Posse, all earning a share of the final bounty. And don’t forget that bringing goals alive brings greater reward.
Eclipsing Bounty Hunter Rank 12 opens the possibility to beat other players with high bounties of $20 or more. Bounty Hunters are notified via invitation of the possibility of tracking down the wanted player when they are nearby in a structured chase. The wanted player must escape (or surrender) within the allotted time and if caught they also have chances to escape and flee. If the Bounty Hunter revives the target, he receives a prize while the criminal serves time.

Your trusted campmate, Cripps, has long dreamed of starting a trading post and you’re going to help him achieve it – by becoming a partner in the fledgling Cripps Trading Company. Combining Cripps’ lifetime of working with animal materials and your hunting and border security skills, you have the perfect ingredients to develop a thriving business.
Once you’ve agreed to help Cripps, you can start converting your camp into a business by buying items for Cripps to convert into salable goods. An investment of 15 gold bars to buy a butcher’s table will get your business up and running, while all PlayStation 4 players get the butcher’s table for free.
Once operational, you will be supplying Cripps with materials through animal hunting – pristine pelts and carcasses will yield better yields. You also take on Resupply missions to acquire additional supplies through less-than-savory tactics. Once delivered, Cripps will begin converting the materials into salable goods, which can then be shipped with low-risk local deliveries for payment or over greater distances for a premium.
Improve your hunting revenue with a longer range hunting truck or upgrade your delivery trucks for bigger sales. As business flourishes and your presence becomes known in the market, your competition may become jealous of your success, so keep an eye out for your camp. As your business grows, consider purchasing a camp dog from Wilderness Outfitters. Dogs not only make great camp companions for all players, but a trader of sufficient rank can teach their dog to warn of incoming attacks.

Find the mysterious traveling saleswoman Ms. Nazar to buy the Collector’s Bag and get started on the Collector’s path. By successfully collecting all 54 hidden playing cards in GTA Online, you can waive the upfront cost of the Collector’s Bag and earn it for free. Otherwise, it costs 15 gold bars to access collecting and selling rare items.
With the help of Ms. Nazar, you can explore the world and find valuable treasures, whether they’re Tarot cards discarded in abandoned camps, buried treasures unearthed with your trusty shovel, hidden family heirlooms, and more.
Collect individual pieces and sell them directly to Ms. Nazar or collect complete sets for even more valuable sales. As you progress, you’ll unlock enhanced quest skills; more useful tools such as a metal detector; benefits such as increased carrying capacity; the ability for your horse to pick herbs directly and pass them to you as you arrive, and more.

In addition to these new Specialist Roles, the update will also include an extensive range of new features and gameplay updates. These include new Role Free Roam events that unlock as you progress through each role; extra stable slots; improved jewelry retail prices across the board; robbery containers in environmental vehicles; more custom outfit slots and the ability to name saved Outfits in your wardrobe; weapon redistribution to reduce reliance on headshots as the primary kill method in PvP and much, much more.
