Riot Games Arcane Animated Series Coming November 7th – First Trailer Released.
Riot Games and Netflix announce that arcane, the first series from Riot Games, will be released on Sunday, November 7th at 03:00 CEST. The series launches on Netflix just hours after the League of Legends World Cup finals.
arcane is divided into three acts, each with three episodes. The first three episodes focus on the beginnings of the two sisters, Jinx and Vi, and will be released on November 7th. The premiere of the series will be the focus of a global celebration for fans of the League of Legends IP.
“Players around the world love League and the universe. Their passion inspires us to shape Runeterra in a way that caters to the fan base. The release of arcane marks the beginning of the next chapter for Riot and we can’t wait for players to see what we have in store for them across gaming, entertainment and esports,” said Nicolo Laurent, CEO of Riot Games. “To honor this moment, we’re putting players at the center of an amazing experience. The World Cup and arcane will come together in a unified, global celebration that connects competition, entertainment and community in whole new ways. You can think of it as a super weekend for players.”
Based on the world of League of Legends emerges arcane into the delicate balance between the wealthy city of Piltover and its seedy underbelly, Zaun. Known throughout Runeterra as the “City of Progress,” many of the brightest minds call this twin city home. But the invention of hextech, a method by which any human can control magical energy, threatens this balance. arcane not only illuminates the backstories of League of Legends champions, but is designed to stand on its own as a complex world filled with moral choices, stunning animations and compelling storytelling.
“When we started arcane to produce, we knew we had something very special going on with the story of Jinx and Vi. We wanted to explore what one would do for one’s family, what values one would compromise, and what conflicts one would endure. The story, combined with the hand-painted art style and nuanced character animation that we developed in collaboration with SFortiche, will provide a comprehensive insight into the world of League of Legends,” says Christian Linke, co-creator of arcane.
The players will arcane see some familiar faces, like Jinx, Vi, Jayce, and Caitlyn, and learn about the events that made them the iconic champions we know today. You’ll also meet some new faces, such as Vander and Silco, both of whom are Zaunites and play important roles in shaping the evolving world.
“arcane is a story of duality. How the characters split into two halves of a city whose values and opportunities, while opposing, complement each other. Each has its own advantages and weaknesses. You may be the hero in your story, but the villain in someone else’s story,” said Alex Yee, co-creator of arcane.
The champions in arcane are the ones that players have come to love in Riot Games games. They should feel very familiar, but there might be some differences as the champions have been adjusted for the series format. The series will explore the extremes to which the characters go when family and tradition conflict with their principles and beliefs. Their personal struggles are affecting the world in ways they never expected, shaping the future of the Twin Cities.
