Yesterday was an important day in Intel’s announcements and they unveiled the new microarchitecture of Tiger Lake, the absolute protagonist of the new 11th generation Intel Core processors for laptops. And after that, we already get to know the new features that make them up, one of them being the new Samsung Galaxy Book Flex 5G, the first 5G computer on the new Intel Evo platform.

As detailed by Intel, Evo is a certification that ensures that ultra-thin laptops that wear it meet certain minimums in addition to one of those new processors which, as we’ll see now, focus on battery life and load. Plus, this laptop is convertible and supports the connectivity its name suggests.

To determine

An ultralight with a strict list of requirements to meet

The Galaxy Book Flex 5G fits into the thinnest and lightest laptops and largely inherits the design we saw in the Samsung Galaxy Book α they unveiled earlier this year at CES 2020, though. that it is a little lighter (weighs 1.26 kilograms). It has a silver finish and fairly reduced frames, which house a screen of 13.3 inch with FullHD resolution.

In fact, this resolution is indirectly part of these minimum requirements that we expected from the EVO platform, which in fact are becoming more stringent than those of Project Athena, which are as follows:

  • Constant battery responsiveness.
  • The system boots from sleep mode in less than a second.
  • Battery life of nine hours or more in systems with FullHD displays.
  • Fast charge with up to four hours of charge in under 30 minutes on systems with FullHD displays.
  • Have a Pro Thunderbolt 4 connectivity cable.
  • Have WiFi 6.

Now we will see that they are among the features of this laptop which, as we also mentioned, has hinges that allow the screen to come to rest in the back when rotated 360 degrees. like its predecessor. But yes, unlike the Flex α yes a S Pen, which is integrated as in the Galaxy Note.

The latest in connectivity

The Galaxy Book Flex 5G launches this new line of processors with options of Intel Core i5 or Core i7. It has up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of storage with an SSD. It supports, in addition to 5G (Sub6), LTE and Wi-Fi 6 (Gig +), have Bluetooth v5.1.

As we usually see in the brand’s products, the speakers bear the AKG signature and in this case they are two 5W speakers. And in terms of connectivity, it has Thunderbolt 4, HDM, USB Type-C, USB 3.0, 3.5mm minijack and microSD card slot.

Speaking of this battery, which together with other components must meet these requirements, in the new Galaxy Book we see a 69.7 Wh battery, the manufacturer of which does not give any indication of its approximate autonomy. But referring to other components (in principle effective in this sense), they indicate that users can “create, take notes or post content all day“, It will therefore be necessary to see if this is achieved in practice.

These notes can be taken with the backlit keyboard or with the S Pen, Samsung’s pointer which can also be useful for working with voice notes through Voice Note. The Galaxy Boook Flex 5G also has two cameras, a 720p facade and another which is located at the base (at the top, on the keyboard) with a 13 megapixel sensor.

Samsung Galaxy Book Flex 5G price and availability

Samsung hasn’t given any data on the final price of the new Galaxy Book Flex yet, so we’ll have to wait to find out how much will be left and the markets for which it will arrive. Seeing as the Galaxy Book α started at $ 829, it’s reasonable to assume that the Flex 5G’s starting price will be around that number or maybe slightly above that. We will wait for what Samsung says to update this information.
