Samsung is found guilty of infringing several Apple patents and must pay $1.05 billion.
A few days ago the demand continued between Samsung and Apple by infringing various patents. The mountain of evidence presented during the process showed that the Samsung copies went much further than we knew. The lawsuits between Apple and Samsung were about something far more important than patents or money. They had to do with values. At Apple, we value originality and innovation and dedicate our lives to creating the best products on Earth. We make these products to delight our consumers, not for our competitors to blatantly copy. We applaud the court for finding that Samsung’s behavior was deliberate and for sending the message loud and clear that stealing is wrong.
Samsung’s response to the verdict:
Today’s verdict should not be seen as a win for Apple, but rather a loss for the American consumer. It will mean fewer options, less innovation, and potentially higher prices. It’s unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give a company a monopoly on rectangles with rounded corners or technologies that are being improved every day by Samsung and other companies. Consumers have the right to choose and know what they are buying when they purchase Samsung products. This is not the last word in this case or in battles in courts and tribunals around the world, some of which have already rejected many of Apple’s claims. Samsung will continue to innovate and offer consumer choice.
