UPDATE (03/30/19): Koch Media has confirmed the price and ten of the titles that the European version of the console will include. The Mega Drive Mini will be available in Europe on September 19 and will cost € 79.99 with two controllers. Regarding games, in our country we will enjoy Sonic the Hedgehog, Ecco the Dolphin, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Space Harrier 2, Shining Force, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, ToeJam & Earl, Comix Zone, Altered Beast and Gunstar Heroes, more another thirty titles yet to be announced.
Original news: Sega has announced the final release date for the Mega Drive Mini.
The retro console will finally hit stores on September 19, with forty games and a price of 6,980 yen (about € 56) with one controller or 8,980 yen (about € 72) with two.
Forty games will be included in its internal memory, of which ten have already been confirmed for the Japanese version. The chosen ones, for now, are Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Puyo Puyo Tsu, Shining Force, Vampire Killer, Wrestleball, Gunstar Heroes, Comix Zone, Rent a Hero, Space Harrier II and Madou Monogatari Ichi. Some of them will repeat in the European and American version (and hopefully Castlevania: Bloodlines is one of them), but some like Madou Monogatari will probably be exclusive to the Japanese territory and will be replaced by other games in the West.
In addition, Sega has revealed that the device’s software is being developed by the M2 studio, which has a brilliant record of moving classic games to modern devices, which will reassure fans. And the icing on the cake is that Yuzo Koshiro, the composer of the Streets of Rage soundtrack, has been tasked with creating a theme for the mini console menu.
Other confirmed details are that the controller (which will be the six-button variant and not the initial three) will have the same size as the original and that, as expected, the Mega Drive Mini games will have an option to save the game at any time using savestates.
