Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One will be a small game.

In the game, we control a younger edition of the master detective in an environment of scenic beauty. We could learn more about this now.

This time, Frogwares, who takes care of Sherlock Holmes video games, has not made an older, experienced detective as the protagonist, but a much younger one who returns to his hometown early in his career to investigate his mother’s death. The story takes place not in London but on a small Mediterranean island that we will be free to explore. Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One most recently showed up at the Future Games Show, where we’ve already got a taste of this world, but the latest video and details tell a lot more.

The developers have revealed that it will take about 15 hours to play through the main story, but anyone who wants to accomplish everything will have between 30 and 40 hours of playing time. We can complete five main missions that span several hours, but there are also more than 30 side missions of different sizes and complexities, each of which requires us to make moral decisions. There will be more suspects in each major mission, and finding the real culprit will only depend on how good we are as detectives. This is because clues can be interpreted in many ways, and these can lead to different theories. Whoever we suspect, we decide our fate.

Regarding the combat system, Frogwares tried to reassure everyone that you can only fight where it fits into the story. We can’t randomly puff people down the street, the game is more of a non-lethal approach (like fistfighting). In the event that we get cornered or don’t have enough time to find the opponent’s weak points, we can even shoot and kill, but this will have certain consequences (e.g., it will worsen the relationship between Sherlock and his friend Jon). Anyone who believes in non-violence can also take advantage of the environmental benefits: they can throw a smoke bomb or just shoot a balcony. By the way, with our hero, we can retreat to our own dilapidated castle in two exciting moments, which we can restore and downsize, with the goods of local merchants. Of course, we can also customize Sherlock to some extent, buy and find different clothes for him: some of them will only be purely cosmetic, while others will be needed to complete a mission.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is expected to be released in 2021 for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG), PS4, Xbox One, and next-generation platforms. The very first gameplay is expected around December-January.
