Increase clan rank

At the start of the game, no one knows you. Suddenly, you will have to make a name for yourself to gradually gain the interest and esteem of certain lords and generals. For that, complete the first quest of the game, asking to level up the clan should be more than enough.

This quest will ask you to recruit twenty men, recruit a companion and raise 2000 money and 50 fame. Improving fame is done quickly, through battles against bandits, tournaments or by completing side quests. You can also play a few rounds of games with the nobles, who could thus talk about your intellectual prowess.

Become a vassal / mercenary

Once this first mission is completed, you can go talk to the nobleman of your choice. These can be found all over the map, so it’s not enough to visit a castle or a large city if you want to pledge allegiance to someone in particular.

Once in front of the person of your choice, you can ask to become a mercenary or a vassal. The first choice does not require any prerequisites, while the second will require your clan to be second rank. Becoming a mercenary first is therefore the fastest thing, and arguably the most profitable.

Mercenary status

Embracing the role of mercenary gives you great freedom of movement. You are always free to act as you see fit and you will be paid based on your wins. The pay is not glorious but it will allow you to choose your fights, to continue to carry out quests in your corner, but also to glean fame, which is the very purpose of being a mercenary.

Indeed, the mercenary gains fame much more quickly, in particular by joining the battles of the camp which pays him. In addition, renown bonuses are awarded based on the number of enemies defeated and your other achievements, such as capturing an enemy commander or powerful troops.

Thanks to this, you will earn some coins but also enough fame to pass your clan to rank 2. Once this is done, you can become a vassal of a kingdom.

Note that becoming a vassal ends your mercenary contract. Contract that you can also end by asking the ruler of the kingdom to release you from your obligations.

Serve a lord

Now that your clan has moved up to rank 2, you are finally worth enough in the eyes of the nobles to become a quality vassal. To do this, go see the ruler of the kingdom and ask him to accept you as a vassal. To find it, you can search for it in theencyclopedia, which will allow you to know its last known position.

As with the other Lords, the latter may move around the map. This would make its location more complicated. Arm yourself with patience to go in search of it, as this can require long minutes of investigation and travel. Not to mention that you may have to rescue him in battle before you can converse with him.

Once found, speak to him and select the response asking to be accepted as a vassal. You will then have to pronounce the vassal’s vows. If your mercenary contract has not yet been broken, it will be there and you can immediately get involved in the politics of the chosen nation.

Control a fiefdom

Once a vassal, you can get involved in political decisions. Among these decisions is the allocation of captured fiefdoms to enemies. Therefore, why not put yourself forward in order to try to gain control?

To do this, go on a campaign against an enemy of your lord and capture a city or a castle. Once this is done, a vote will be opened (in which you can participate) in order to decide who deserves the allocation of the fiefdom. Against a little influence (20, 50, 100), you can vote for yourself.

In order to have a chance to receive votes, one must have participated in the battle for the capture of the stronghold. Leading the assault gives you a slight bonus to other Lords. To have been at the head of the army leading the siege as well. But beware, you are never 100% sure that you will receive the fiefdom because the ruler of the kingdom will always have the last word.

The vote also takes into account the skill charm of your character. Therefore, try to increase it little by little to be competent enough when the time comes.
