Update:

Sony said on Saturday night (4) that because it promised to deliver free upgrades to its launch cross-gen games, with one of them being Horizon Forbidden West, it has decided to go back and keep this promise, meaning that players who purchase any PS4 edition of Aloy’s New Adventure will be able to upgrade to PS5 at no additional cost.

Furthermore, the company said that from now on, all games made by PlayStation studios will offer an upgrade option that will cost $10. This applies to the upcoming God of War, Gran Turismo 7, and any other cross-gen game distributed by Sony.

Original article:

Yesterday Sony started pre-ordering Horizon Forbidden West worldwide, but many people were unhappy with the fact that there is no way to upgrade the game from PS4 to PS5 in the standard edition, forcing the user to buy the game twice to access both versions.

The only ways to buy the game just once and have both versions is by choosing the Collector’s Edition, Regalla Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition, the latter costing R$399.50 in Brazil. The other two unfortunately will not be officially released here.

Sony’s decision left many players angry, both in Brazil and abroad, as we can see in some posts made on Twitter:

Horizon Forbidden West…

PS4 = BRL 299
PS5 = BRL 349
PS5 DELUXE = R$400

Note: you only get a free upgrade from PS4 to PS5 by purchasing the DELUXE version.

Learned from EA very well Sony, congratulations! pic.twitter.com/OAqsJcQf3m

On the one hand, Sony charging Horizon FW on both ps4 and ps5, without any benefit of upgrading between platforms.

On the other, Xbox, which delivers the best version of the game, for whatever platform the customer has…

And a crowd still defends this abusive stance.. pic.twitter.com/Rdk46KXswB

PS4 version R$ 300
PS5 version R$ 350
Both versions R$ 400

Paid upgrade for those who buy the PS4 version. 🤡

Typical BS from Sony they aren’t getting any upgrade tax from me that’s a certain.. I’ll wait for this one to come down in price although it’s a bummer.

They straight up lied about the PS4 – PS5 upgrade tree. I remember them saying it would be free like Xbox versions, then when the time comes its $10 per game??! pic.twitter.com/8VUS6c8yNF

This time its 20…
You need the 79.99 version for “dual entitlement”
There is no upgrade path.
So now the feature is locked into whats considered a deluxe version of the game.
And people defend this, guess next time we shall see 29.99 for the benefit until they open their eyes.

Many players hope that Sony will reconsider this decision and offer a way for users who buy Horizon Forbidden West on PS4 to upgrade to the PS5 version, without having to buy the game twice or opt for the more expensive editions.

Horizon Forbidden West will be released on February 18, 2022.
