Sony defends the lack of cross-play in Fortnite on PS4
In statements that promise to become controversial and talk about over the next few months, Sony has again defended its decision not to implement cross-play on the PlayStation 4 version of Fortnite.
Epic Games’ popular battle royale, available on Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS, is also available on Sony’s console, where you can’t play with anyone on other platforms.
Sony’s response seems to be quite simple and incredibly controversial – that’s because the PS4 is where you get the best experience.
Second striker by the Independent, Kenichiro Yoshida, Sony CEO, spoke about this decision to not allow cross-play on the PS4 version of Fortnite and restrict the use of the game’s accounts to his console.
“When it comes to cross-play, our way of thinking is that PlayStation is always the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, in partnership with PlayStation 4, is the best experience for gamers, that’s what we believe.”
Yoshida also said that Sony already allows cross-play with the PC in some games, but that it needs to manage the quality of their experiences.
“Actually, we’ve already allowed some games to cross-play with the PC and others, so we decide based on what’s best for the user experience. That’s our way of thinking for cross-platform.”
The Sony representative also spoke about competition and argued that this is healthy for the industry.
“I think competition is always good. Healthy and fair competition is always good for industry and growth. I think competition with Nintendo and Xbox is a healthy situation.”
