Spider-Man is leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel Studios will no longer be involved in the development of Spider-Man movies in the future as they have failed to reach an agreement with Sony Pictures.
Spider-Man is leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures failed to reach an agreement on a new contract. As you can probably guess, it comes down to money.
After Sony owned the rights to Spider-Man for years, Marvel Studios and Sony decided to share the Spider-Man character in 2015. This was due to the disappointing results of the Spider-Man films released under Sony in 2012 and 2014. That meant that the character was featured in the Marvel movies Captain Amercia: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, and Kevin Feige was allowed to play the Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home movies for Sony. produce. Due to the influence of Feige, these films fitted well with the MCU. Sony and Disney both shared little or nothing of the proceeds from these films.

The latest Spider-Man movie, Far From Home, has recently overtaken Skyfall as Sony Pictures’ highest-earning movie, amassing a whopping $ 1 billion. Far From Home is also the highest-grossing blockbuster film this year that has not been financed or released by Disney. That can hardly be a coincidence!
According to Deadline’s article, during negotiations with Sony, Disney said that it wanted to split the cost of the Spider-Man movies 50/50 in the future, which also meant they would split the proceeds 50/50. Sony didn’t think this was a good idea, so Disney decided to cut Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios off the project entirely, and kick the character Spider-Man out of the MCU. And so the Spider-Man story in the MCU suddenly came to a tragic end …

On Tuesday evening, Sony announced that they are disappointed with Disney’s choice:
We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film. We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own. Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.

What this means for Tom Holland as Peter Parker is not yet fully understood, although it seems as yet that the actor can continue to play the character in the upcoming Spider-Man films. That is at least a bright spot for fans of the franchise, but that Spider-Man is now being written out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some way, that is quite painful. We are all very curious about exactly how they are going to do this, but an MCU without Peter Parker will never be the same again …
This weekend the D23 Expo takes place, which is basically like Comic Con for Disney titles. The lack of Spider-Man will not go unnoticed here, and perhaps the fans present will also let you hear what they think about this unexpected news …
