SSD hard drive. In some cases, flash memory can replace a hard drive. We are talking about records ssd (Solid disk drive). The literal translation from English, which would be solid state drive, refers to SamaGametronic components that make it up, unlike traditional hard drives that have moving mechanical parts. The English term “solid state” indicates an electronic device or component with semiconductors, that is, without moving parts.
SSD hard drive: Advantages
Its main advantage is its particularly short access time, generally 0.1 minutes. Its power consumption is also low, especially during waking hours. Other important advantages are the total silence and the great resistance to shocks. In general, these drives use a SATA interface and are available in 3″½ or 2″½.
Disadvantages of an SSD hard drive
The number of entries in the same “disk” area is limited to a few billion (quickly accomplished by using virtual memory or log files). Although there are no solutions to solve this problem, increase the capacity (up to 256 GB at the moment) and mainly reduce the cost, the use of SSD as the main drive is still limited to certain applications, such as mini PCs.
Type of chip
There are two different chips in the SSD, the MLC and SLC chips.
-
MLC chip
MLC is the abbreviation for multilevel cellliterally, multilevel cell. This chip is used in public SSDs.
Advantage: low cost production.
Disadvantages: can’t reach significant transfer speed, consumes much more and has shorter lifespan than SLC chip
-
The SLC chip
SLC is the abbreviation for single level cell, which means single level cell. This chip can be found in high-quality professional SSDs.
Advantages: important transfer speed, reduced consumption and a longer lifespan than the MLC chip.
Disadvantage: high manufacturing cost.
