The new patch is approaching with overwhelming speed… Let’s take a closer look at Meddler’s predictions!
Janna is considered one of the best tanks in League of Legends, so the character needed some changes that turned out to be inaccurate. Let’s recall the changes from patch 7.19:
Summary of Janna’s changes, more nerfs expected
Janna
- Attack Range: 475 ⇒ 550
- Base Attack Damage: 52 ⇒ 46
- Attack Damage Growth: 3 ⇒ 1.5
- Attack Speed Gain: 2.61% ⇒ 2.95%
- Basic Attack Projectile Speed: 1200 ⇒ 1600
- Base Health: 487 ⇒ 525
- Health Growth: 78 ⇒ 70
- Passive – Tailwinds
- New: Janna now benefits from Tailwinds’ 8% Movement Speed increase.
- New: Janna’s basic attacks and single-target spells deal bonus magic damage equal to 35% of her bonus movement speed.
- Tailwinds’ 8% Movement Speed gain counts towards the bonus damage of magic abilities. So with Janna’s base Movement Speed of 335, Tailwinds alone is 9.38. extra magic damage
- Q – Howling Gale
- Cost: 90/105/120/135/150 mana ⇒ 60/80/100/120/140 mana
- Cooldown: 14/13/12/11/10 seconds ⇒ 12 seconds at all levels
- RANGE: 850-1742.5 based on charge time ⇒ 1000-1750 based on charge time
- New: Howling Gale always reaches its endpoint within 1.5 seconds meaning it moves 75% faster than instant cast when fully charged.
- W – Marshmallow
- Cooldown: 12 sec. ⇒ 8 seconds
- Slow duration: 3 seconds ⇒ 2 seconds
- Passive Movement Speed: 9/11/13/15/17% ⇒ 6/7/8/9/10%
- RANGE: 600 range measured between hitbox centers ⇒ 550 range measured between hitbox centers (range increased against large targets, decreased against small targets)
- E – Eye of the Cyclone
- Cooldown: 10 sec. at all ranks ⇒ 18/16/14/12/10 seconds
Riot’s goal was to nerf her, and it ended up doing the exact opposite – she got 2 quick hotfixes right after the changes to her skillset. Let’s remind them:
- First hotfix:
- Base Movement Speed: 335 ⇒ 320
- Base Mana: 409.52 ⇒ 350
- Base Health: 525 ⇒ 500
- W – Zephyr
Mana cost increased to 40/50/60/70/80 from 50/60/70/80/90

Percentage of bonus movement speed as magic damage lowered at early levels from 35% ⇒ 15/25/35% at levels 1/7/13. - E – Eye of the Storm
Shield lowered from 80/120/160/200/240 to 70/105/140/175/210.

Meddler has stated that Riot won’t make the same mistake again, so Janna’s various changes are being tested with increased attention.
In my opinion, the problem is the small amount of mechanics that Storm Rage has. Attempted to add more damage to her by compensating for the increased cooldown on E, but it proved unwise – the character had damage as well as solid protection.
