The Switch reached the highest number of units sold for a console in January since the Wii in 2010. However, in terms of registered revenue from sales, the PS5 fared better, as it costs more than Nintendo’s device. It was the highest revenue recorded for the month of January since the Wii in 2009.
Hardware spending increased 144% year-over-year to $319 million, the highest since January 2011, when it was posted at $323 million.
In games, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was the best seller and has been at the top of the list since it was released in November. The game also became the 20th game in US history to record the most revenue from sales.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla ranked second in January and became the second fastest-selling game in the series to date in the US during its first three months, behind only Assassin’s Creed III.
In accessories, sales rose 73% to reach a record $222 million, with the PS5 DualSense being the best-selling accessory in January.
