PS5 will use a more advanced method of image reconstruction?
A patent registered by Sony suggests that PlayStation 5 can use an image reconstruction technique similar to DLSS 2.0. To put it simply, it is about using a lower base resolution (e.g. 1080p or 720p) and selectively supplementing animation frames with details observed in the higher “chapter” – this operation is performed by a specially trained AI algorithm.
The result is an image with comparable sharpness and detail, but requiring much less processing power to generate. The potential gain from using similar technology on PS5 is obvious – DLSS 2.0 in most situations is better than the so-called. checkerboarding, which is commonly used in PlayStation 4 Pro games.
