The real Ao Shin will appear in the game… as a Little Legend in TFT (also Choncc and Umbra in the series).

Meet Ao Shin, a legendary League of Legends character whose design evolved into the in-game Aurelion Sol. The hero was released… as Little Legend.

Ao Shin, the Storm Dragon – a character of legend

What older League of Legends players have surely heard of Ao Shin – the legendary frozen champion design that was eventually released as Aurelion Sol in March 2016. Wait…was that really four years ago?

We got the first reports of a dragon character in 2013. More or less regularly, Riot informed us that he had not forgotten about the dragon. The players were afraid that he would share the fate of Omen and Ao Shin’s project would simply be abandoned. Every now and then we received information that its release was postponed. Over time, this information was published less and less often …

Omen, unreleased hero. Riven was released instead.

At the end of January 2016, it was with great relief and joy that we were able to write an article: RIOT CREATES AO SHINA!.

Character creation is an extremely dynamic process. Dynamic, but at the same time laborious and long-lasting. We have no idea when Ao Shin will be released, I certainly wouldn’t bet my own money that it would be this year.

But why was Ao Shin so hype? We knew next to nothing about the hero. The dragon artwork shown above was released much later. What could be behind his phenomenon?

I’m probably not going to be wrong when I say that players like the dragon archetype – just like that. Dragon characters are interesting and provide a lot of space to design a very interesting skillset. In addition, in LoL we can still meet a dragon in the jungle (and by the way, I recommend doing it) – it certainly added its brick.

The hero was as legendary as Thresha trapped in a lantern

Senna – it was believed that “someday Riot will release them”, but when … Constantly postponing the release of the hero became his hallmark.

One of the difficulties in releasing the dragon hero was… his animated body. This effectively blocked its premiere for many months, which finally took place in March 2016.

After the release of ASol, players often referred to him as Ao Shin.

Ashen Lord Aurelion Sol – for me this is one of the prettiest splash art in League of Legends.

But Aurelion Sol is not Ao Shin

Ao Shin was supposed to be related to Ionia. Wise, royal, wielding storms and protecting the natural world, he was someone completely different from Aurelion Sol – the Architect of the Stars. Ao Shin’s design evolved into Aurelion Sol. That doesn’t mean Aurelion Sol is Ao Shin though.

This is also confirmed by the release of Ao Shin as a Little Legend in TFT. Additionally, one of his color versions looks like Aurelion Sol.

We know different kinds of dragons. They have always appeared in all cultures of the world. Sometimes as flying beasts and sometimes as magical snakes. However, they have always been treated as beasts that harm people and the Earth. In general, the message is one: a world without dragons would be better.

League of Legends breaks this convention. The world without Aurelion Sol would not be better, because it probably would not exist at all.

In fact, you can say that this is the end of Ao Shin’s long history. The champion will be finally released in patch 10.19. As Little Legend but released.
