Nintendo recognizes that it is important to invest in development and innovation for its next platform … that everything indicates that it will not be Switch Pro.

Nintendo is living a more than sweet moment with its Nintendo Switch console, after reaching 84.59 million consoles sold and adding more than 500 million video games sold for its platform. However, the Big N admits that they are planning a new platform beyond Switch, which is in the middle of its life cycle.

We already told you that Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, did not want to relax in the least despite the huge commercial success of Switch. The company is more than satisfied with the performance of the Nintendo Switch, but not for this reason they will stop investing in hardware and software facing the splendorous future that lies ahead … that, maybe, it won’t be Switch Pro.

At a recent investor meeting, Nintendo claimed that it is necessary to invest also in the next platform, which will integrate the company’s hardware and software. They again emphasize that Nintendo Switch is in the middle of its life cycle, but they also do not lose sight of the future and the next console that would take the witness of the hybrid platform.

” We are still in the middle of the Switch life cycle, so the costs of software and outsourcing continue to rise, and that is the main focus. And the cost per title is increasing. And we are investing in online infrastructure. However, In the middle of the generation change cycle, it is also necessary to invest in the next platform on which the integration of hardware and software will continue

And this is where we find a new possibility. We have been hearing the name of Switch Pro for many months as a successor to Switch, but the reality is that things could change a lot in relation to its next console. There is a possibility that Switch Pro is a revision of the current console, in the style of what were PS4 Pro and Xbox One X for PS4 and Xbox One… and not an actual successor.

This is where the concept of ” next platform ” comes in. Some insiders claim that Switch Pro will be released in 2022, but this model may not be the true successor of the Switch, which would take a few more years to wait. Given that the Nintendo Switch is in the middle of its life cycle, it is quite possible that the new model coexists at the same time as the Lite and the standard model.

In case these new rumors are true, the true successor to the Nintendo Switch (outside of the Switch series) will still have to wait several years, until the full life cycle of the hybrid console is completed. We remind you that Switch Pro would be a revision that would include 4K graphics, NVIDIA DLSS 2.0 technology and Bluetooth features, among other things.

The truth is that Nintendo is in no rush. Nintendo Switch turned four years old last March, and it still has a few years left to continue increasing its good figures, and continue offering exclusives as powerful as Breath of the Wild 2, Metroid Prime 4, or Bayonetta 3.
