Taking the obvious away from its shape and size, there are several differences we can talk about. The AirPods and AirPods Pro have two microphones that are responsible for recording our voice in calls and orders to Siri, and in the case of AirPods Pro to capture ambient sound to cancel it. AirPods Max have nine microphones: six for active cancellation, one to capture our voice and two additional ones that do both functions.

Thanks to its size we also find the digital crown to increase and decrease the volume, plus an additional button to activate and deactivate active noise cancellation on the fly. But it is that same size and shape that prevents the AirPods Max from having wireless charging: we can only do it using a Lightning cable. It can be with the one included (Lightning to USB-C), or with any other Lightning to USB-A that we have (charging may be slower).

There are still rumors of cheaper AirPods Max

You were warned about the price 😬

Now … when will we see that “sport” model 🤔 https://t.co/ffbf3HXqdT

– Jon Prosser (@jon_prosser) December 8, 2020

Jon Prosser, who has been right with his predictions about the AirPods Max, continues to insist that this model is a premium version of the headphones, made in anodized aluminum. We could see a model made in cheaper materials (like plastic) and at a more reasonable price, in order to reach more pockets. And the truth is that there is a fairly obvious price gap between the 279 euros for the AirPods Pro and the 629 euros for the AirPods Max.

At the moment we already know that we will see these new AirPods Max in stores within a week. And knowing its specs can be helpful, but what convinces in professional headphones is knowing if they are comfortable on the head and if they sound good. We will see it in the analyzes that will undoubtedly appear during the next few weeks.
