We had to wait a while, but Sony today unveiled the PlayStation 5’s interface in an 11-minute video on the official PlayStation Blog. The PS5’s menu is rendered in 4k, with each game and app using a portion of the home screen.

The video emphasizes the accessibility of the interface. The PlayStation Store is integrated into the home screen and many menus can be placed in picture-in-picture mode so that they can be viewed without leaving a game.

One of the enhancements to the new interface is the Control Center, which provides instant access to almost everything you need from the PS5 with a single press of the PlayStation button. Much of the Control Center is Activities, which are displayed as maps on the screen. These cards show players new gameplay possibilities, things they have missed, and it also makes it possible to get started with specific levels and challenges immediately. Activities can indicate how long it will take for a segment to complete and videos are also available to help you with a challenge.

Social features such as voice chat can also be accessed from the Control Center and players can even share their screens. Meanwhile, the new Create button of the DualSense controller allows users to take screenshots and videos in 4k.

Hideaki Nishino, SVP platform planning at Sony, said, “We believe your playtime is valuable and should be meaningful, and all the new features we provide are inspired by that concept and vision. The new UX introduces several new features designed to make gaming experiences more fun, engaging, personal and social. ”

“Navigating the interface, switching between games and jumping to online matches is fast as we’ve rebuilt the entire software stack from console to network to give you a truly next-gen experience. We believe that the less time you spend waiting to interact with the system, the more time you will have to spend playing games. ”

PlayStation 5 will be launched in the Netherlands and Belgium on November 19.
