Thor: Ragnarok – first images Hela, Valkyrie and Thor’s new haircut.
The third installment of the Thor movies, Thor Ragnarok is scheduled for release this year and we can finally witness the gloriously clipped locks of the God of Thunder for the first time. In addition to Thor, Valkyrie and goddess of death Hela can also be seen on the front of the sheet.
Thor briefly appears in the new Marvel movie Thor: Ragnarok. The cover of Entertainment Weekly features the first-ever official image of the cropped god of thunder, played by Chris Hemsworth, and there’s a lot to notice about the superhero’s new look, but more on that later. Besides Thor, we can also get a first look at goddess of death Hela and badass warrior Valkyrie. With all the colors on the front page, the film seems to have a kind of ’80s vibe, something that may be due to the special style of director Taika Waititi.
It is clear that Thor is going to experience something in Ragnarok. In the movie, he’s forced into gladiator-style fights, and chances are that’s the reason for his new haircut. There will be relatively few rules in the alien arena, so he can prevent someone from pulling his Viking bells with this one. What is even more striking is that little remains of the red cape on his back and that the God of Thunder is on the cover without his beloved hammer Mjolnir. Instead, he carries two swords, which will undoubtedly be used to slaughter many aliens in the arena.
It is currently unknown how Thor will lose Mjolnir. The hammer can only be picked up by creatures worthy enough and the MCU has shown that for now, besides Thor, only Vision has that honor. So it is possible that in Thor: Ragnarok we will meet another person who can lift the magical thunder hammer and that person rob Thor of his classic weapon. Beta Ray Bill maybe?
It could also be that the person to the left of Thor on the cover, the Asgardian goddess of death Hela (Cate Blanchett), is holding him away from his weapon. She is also rumored to be in possession of an infinity stone, and this may even make her powerful enough to take Mjolnir from the thunder god. Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson, also features prominently on the cover of the magazine, but her role in the film is unknown for now.
Thor: Ragnarok is in theaters October 25 and is after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man Homecoming the third Marvel Studios movie to be released this year. In addition to Thor, the Hulk also plays an important role and we will see Doctor Strange come along, making Thor: Ragnarok more of a stand-alone project, like Civil War, than ‘just’ Thor 3. We are hyped and will definitely go review!
In the meantime, check out a bonus pic of Hela, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Thor as gladiator and Jeff Goldblum as the … er, colorful Grandmaster:
