WhatsApp beta suggests a cross-platform feature to use the app on multiple devices at the same time.

Recently, WhatsApp engineers have published the latest of the betas of their Android app to version 2.20.110 and some news has appeared in it that may reach all users in the coming months. But if there is one that draws attention, it is the reference to a multi-device login, suggesting the existence of an app for PC, for iPad and for more devices that are not only mobile.

As published by WaBetaInfo, which usually has prior access to betas and their news, WhatsApp prepares a function for have the account open on multiple devices. The reference is minimal, but especially direct about its meaning. It has been given in the notice that WhatsApp shows when one changes the encryption key in a connection between two people. That is, the message that currently appears whenever someone changes mobile or we start a new conversation, that message that tells us that the conversation is secure and is encrypted from end to end.

Apparently the new message that now appears is “X’s device list has changed. Click for more info.” or “Your security code with X has changed because you have logged in or out from multiple devices.” In both cases, this reference to various devices from which the communication is carried out gives indications the possible arrival of a multiplatform WhatsApp with a single account. That is, WhatsApp clients for tablets or native to PC for example.

Actually it is only possible to be logged in on a single device, with the option to view that account on WhatsApp Web or on the desktop client, although it is only a mirror of the account on the mobile and does not work independently.

Messages that are automatically deleted

Additionally, in this version of the WhatsApp beta there are news in the message auto-delete function. This is a feature that has been tested in the beta for Android for some time as we saw recently. Through it it is possible to send a message with an expiration date / time. In this way it is possible to send messages that we know will be automatically deleted after a day, a week or a month (according to the WaBetaInfo captures).

This can be used both to send individual messages that are automatically deleted and to create entire conversations that are automatically deleted. If you choose the latter, an icon of a clock appears in the conversation profile, indicating that all the messages in that conversation are perishable.

Unfortunately, neither this function nor the multi-device login is something that has an arrival date, not even confirmation that they will arrive. As much as they appear in the app in a trial version, they are just that, tests. But of course, it has been through the WhatsApp betas that we have seen the arrival of dark mode, states and many other functions of the messaging app.
