WhatsApp has today launched a new location sharing feature for its popular app. This last feature allows all users to share their location with other contacts using end-to-end encryption.

In a blog post, WhatsApp today shared more details about this latest released feature. Users can share their location by chat and for a limited amount of time and also have the ability to stop sharing their location at any time, as long as they want to.

When multiple people in a chat share their location, they will be able to locate everyone on the same map. To use the new function, we always have to touch the attach button (with the icon of a clip), then we will click on “Location” and that is when we will find the new option “Share live location”.

WhatsApp explains it like this.

Whether you’re meeting up with friends, letting loved ones know you’re safe, or sharing your ride, Live Location is a simple and secure way to let people know where you are. This end-to-end encrypted feature allows you to control who you share with and for how long. You can choose to stop sharing at any time or just let the Live Location timer expire

The new WhatsApp feature is coming soon

WhatsApp also warns that this latest feature will be available for both iOS and Android, and that it will be released in the coming weeks.

This new feature of WhatsApp recently (last summer) also reached the Snapchat social network. While Google Maps also added a similar feature.

Apple for its part has also offered its own location sharing option for a while with the “Find my friends” application.
