Who is Angrboda in God of War Ragnarok?.
God of War Ragnarok is one of the most talked about games at the moment. The repercussion of the sequence was very positive for Santa Monica.
The trailer released on Playstation Showcase revealed new characters that will follow. And who called the most attention was a girl at the end of the trailer talking to Kratos and Atreus: “You will have your answers soon. Well, some of them.” But who is Angrboda and what is its importance in history?
Attention! To explain about the character, the text contains spoilers from the first game. For those who haven’t played yet, I suggest coming back after the submission so we don’t spoil the experience with some revelations.
Who is Angrboda?
Angrboda in Norse mythology is a giant whose name means “the one that brings sadness“, that is, it is a being feared by many creatures. Angrboda is one of those responsible for the Ragnarok event together with her children.
Atreus will be hit by the arrow of love
Atreus, as revealed at the end of God of War (2018), is Loki himself, a powerful being in Norse mythology. Loki and Angrboda fall in love and from this love three children are born: The wolf Fenrir; the snake Jormungandr, and the goddess of death Hel. Both Fenrir and Jormungandr play crucial roles in Ragnarok. Jormungandr we already met in the first game and it’s in the ocean of Midgard. At the time, no relationship with Atreus was mentioned.
Atreus, or as we can call Loki, is not being monogamous, he has other relationships and has children with at least two other beings: a son, Narfi, with his wife, the goddess Sigyn, and the horse Sleipnir, which he conceived with the Svadilfari stallion.
Angrboda has already appeared indirectly in God of War 2018
Angrboda, while not appearing physically in the game, was indirectly mentioned in the Jotnar Sanctuary of Jormungandr. An image of a woman nursing the snake Jormungandr and around her a pack of wolves.
It’s still unclear how Santa Monica will bring the character into the game and the role she will play, but with Tyr appearing in the trailer it’s very likely that we’ll see Loki’s other kids in the game.
