The arrival of Macs with Apple Silicon M1 processors in late 2020 marked the beginning of the apple transition towards its own architecture. For 10 years, the company has been evolving the concept of its own processors and has waited for this precise moment to show the world what its initial proposal is for what awaits us in the future.
The initial scope surprised those of us who were able to analyze the first Macs with this technology, especially since they were in direct competition with one of the leading companies in the world, nothing more and nothing less than Intel. The new apple computers not only faster, but also quieter, more efficient and cooler … However, the impact of Apple’s development on the Apple Silicon architecture goes much further.
An unprecedented leap: data by data
Our colleague Antonio Sabán wrote one of the articles for SamaGame more complete than can be found today today on the balance between efficiency, performance and power of this new technology. To do this, it has managed to deactivate – using techniques that border on the “jailbreak” – some of the cores of the SoC (System on Chip) itself and do its own tests, measuring how they work and if they fulfill what Apple promised in its presentation.
The M1’s watt-level review and efficiency make it clear that what we’ve seen is way ahead of the rest of the competition.
We have also commented many times that in these new machines, synthetic benchmarks are no longer valid by themselves: Antonio in his article also analyzes how they work even recording the consumption to the watt. We talk about all this in this podcast where we break down each of the tests, why the step that the company has taken is so important and what the next steps are. Macs have a future more promising than ever, and the numbers made in Antonio’s article already anticipate it.
