Each manufacturer has a day or two set aside for their major launches and bombings and everything points to this year’s Apple, WWDC 2020, will be one of the biggest and by no means decaffeinated. In fact, even rumors and leaks still pile up hours before they happen and now two of the most well-known leaks are talking about it. there will be no material at WWDC 2020.
The significance of the event we are talking about refers to a very important change that has been rumored for years and is expected to become official today: goodbye to Intel processors to integrate their own ARM chips. But according to Jon Prosser and Ming-Chi Kuo, two of the more well-known brand leaks / analysts won’t be announcing new devices just yet, although they throw a lot of clues about how they look.
Important announcements without associated (commercial) product
While these new computers that would usher in this new era of Apple are expected in 2021, for this Keynote, it is expected (ba) to see at least one new iMac with a new design with reduced frames and a profile similar to Pro Display XDR, as well as headphones, a new version of Apple TV and rumored AirTags.
But Prosser and Kuo see for sure that there will be no new Macs in this presentation, although the second gives a series of forecasts that show that of Cupertino. would have walked on gas for the launch of the new equipment, speaking of:
- The new 24-inch iMac with redesign and the Intel processor: imminent launch planned for the third quarter of 2020.
- New 13.3-inch MacBook Pro with ARM processor: End of 2020 or first quarter 2021.
- New iMac with ARM processor and the new design: end of 2020 or first quarter 2021.
According to the analyst, in these teams with the new chips, there would be 50-100% performance improvement over its Intel predecessors, which would be very remarkable. Although Prosser is not 100% sure whether to see material in the WWDC and it cannot be ruled out that the new 24 inch iMac has appeared today, thus having a little more importance until the first iMac with chip ARM.
At the end of the day, it’s a developer-driven event and the logical thing is that the focus is on software. On this subject, in addition to the new versions of iOS, macOS, watchOS, iPadOS and tvOS, we are expecting a team as a transition kit for developers (and not on the market), as was done at WWDC in 2005 with the switch to Intel (it is assumed to be a Mac mini).
The Laptop Processor Market Expects Big Changes
As we have already commented on previous occasions, it will be a significant change both in the trajectory of the manufacturer and in its relations with other companies, in this case mainly Intel. Kuo himself has already said that this generational leap will allow Apple save between 40% and 60% of the cost of processors, and above all to stand out even more from Windows PCs and laptops.
Beyond what Apple is doing, it will be interesting to see what happens in the processor market. especially talking about laptops. Earlier this year, we already saw that Intel made the dwarves grow with Qualcomm and AMD stepping up their artillery, so we’ll see how the parts and distribution of the processors are left.
As for Apple, from Xataka, we’ll tell you everything live and in great detail both on our live page and on our Twitter account (@Xataka). We are waiting for you to see what data of all progress is confirmed, let’s prepare the popcorn geek.
