Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air with 8th generation Intel «microphones».

“Few laptops give so much for so little.” That was our conclusion when, almost a year and a half ago, we had the opportunity to thoroughly analyze the at that time newcomer Mi Notebook Air from Xiaomi. Since landing on the market, this team has shown that it has the “guts” that were needed to compete from you to you, at least on many fronts, with the MacBook Air and other proposals of similar ambition.

His assets? Two attractive screen sizes (12.5 and 13.3 inches), compelling specifications (especially those of the 13.3-inch model), and most of all, a rather irresistible price. Those first proposals in 2016 were followed by a review in 2017 that we were also able to analyze in Engadget, and that, again, left us with a very good taste in our mouths. And now, just a few months later, the Chinese brand just “refreshed” the 13.3-inch model with a very clear intention: to keep making things difficult for your competitors.

New “mikes” Intel Core i5 and i7

The 13.3-inch Mi Notebook Air will henceforth be available with two different Intel Core i5 and i7 microprocessors, both eighth generation (Proof of your trust in Intel beyond the Meltdown and Specter issues). These chips, like the 7th generation Intel Core built into the 2017 models of Xiaomi’s Mi Notebook Air, use the Kaby Lake microarchitecture and are manufactured using 14nm lithography.

Its advantage over the previous microprocessors of this brand, always according to Intel, resides in that in this latest generation they have managed to increase performance by up to 40% compared to the seventh generation Intel Core. All the chips, at the moment, are available with 4 physical and 8 logical cores, as well as a level 3 cache memory of 8 Mbytes for the Core i7, and 6 Mbytes in the case of the Core i5.

The version with the 8th generation Intel Core i7 CPU not available yet, and, therefore, its price does not appear, but, logically, it will be somewhat more expensive than the revision with an Intel Core i5 chip. We will update this article with this information as soon as we know it.
